¶3WHAT'S THE POINT OF....
..attending to a competition ?
¶2By THE CLASH of ANGELICA...
¶1 I wrote this article since I felt I
wanted to say something about the
voting-systems at parties. I guess
the subject has been very common to
many of the scene-guys of today,
because they feel unfair threaten on
the parties ! (I would appreciate if
someone could respond to this article,
because I think that it's a case that
concerns almost everyone).
I guess everybody wants to become
famous because of what they're doing
in the scene. One way to really take
the big step, is, for instance winning
a compo at a party. What's the big
deal to contribute to a big
competition, when you know that you
will be pissed off by the results ?
You all know that there usually is two
different ways to judge a compo; A
jury with only skilled persons, or a
voting-system. When I was present at
"¶3THE GATHERING '92¶1", there were
actually both ! A jury picked out ten
different contributions first, and
then people got to vote for the
vinner. I, personally didn't like it
that way. You see, many well- known
groups and persons weren't picked out
of the jury at all, so they became
pretty upset by the way it had been
done. (Oh, please don't misunderstand
me and think that I think that it's
only the well-known and good groups
who make awesome productions !) I
found it very funny, because when I
asked 0ystein Eide of ex-M.O.N. why
he shouldn't compete he answered:What
is the point of competing when I know
that Jumbo of Cola Crew will win ? I
think that 0ystein had a very good
point when he said that, because I
think that everybody who contributes
to the competitions want to win, so
there's no, or less point to
contribute when you know that you
won't win anyway ! (Why do people
compete at all ? To win ofcourse !)
Ok, I'll now look at some of the
advantages and disadvantages with the
two different systems;
¶3A jury ¶1(¶2advantages¶1):
-They will always know what is very
skilled made (if it's about music,
for example;effects, style, etc.)
-They will save a lot of time and
other technical problems (such as
no need of voting-teminals/systems)
-There's a limited opportunity to,
for instance bribe a jury instead
of lots of contacts, friends, etc.
¶1(¶2disadvantages¶1):
-They pick out, for instance what's
skilled made, instead of what the
people likes
-No democracy, in other words; they
can't reflect the peoples opinion,
they only pick out what they like
themselves
¶3Voting ¶1(¶2advantages¶1):
-It will reflect peoples opinions
-The winner wins because he makes
popular productions, not neces-
sarily very skilled or well-done,
but cool to listen to or look at
¶1(¶2disadvantages¶1):
-Most people often vote their own
style instead of what's well-made
-Often chaos under voting
Well, I guess there's many more as
well, but right now I can't come up
with any more. I also have to admit
that since I'm a musician myself, I
strictly thought on music when I wrote
the dis/ -advantages list. It's also
very difficult to be objective when I
have my own opinion myself, so you
might think that I judge unfair now,
but I think that voting-systems is the
best way to judge the competitions.
At least everybody have a chance then,
and the winner is reflected on peoples
opinions, not whether it's skilled
done, or a new style, but it's cool to
look at or listen to. If you think it
over, you might have the same opinion
as me ! After all, I guess
voting-system is more fair for
everyone. At least, everybody is
given the same chances. (What I mean
is that you don't actually need to
have good reputations to win a
competiton on a party if you're very
skilled anyway !)
¶2 Ok, I guess it's time to finnish
this awesome article, but before I
quit, I would like if anybody could
write a similiar article on the same
subject. (After all, this article
reflected more of my own opinions than
peoples own reactions !)
